Finish Strong: A Year-End Guide for Fine Arts Booster Leaders
Summer is near, but the school year’s end still needs attention. The last few weeks can feel like a sprint—concerts, banquets, fall kick-off events, leadership training, and final fundraisers compete for time. It’s easy to lose focus when thinking of vacations and rest. Yet, this is the ideal moment to finish strong and set the stage for next year.
Celebrate the Wins
Your booster team and students worked hard all year. Celebrate that effort. Hold a simple year-end gathering to recognize achievements, thank volunteers, and honor students. Whether it's a booster board cookout, a booster virtual “Shout Out” night, or a casual project team get-together, the goal is to end the year with gratitude and joy so that all feel appreciated and seen.
Reflect and Plan Ahead
Before closing the books and locking the door, take time to reflect. What went well? What could improve? List three to five successes and three to five growth areas. This clarifies what to keep and what to change. Share notes with your board to spark honest discussion. It is important for this to happen at the “30,000 ft level” (booster executive leadership) and the “1,000 ft level” (project team level) before everyone gets away for the summer.
Build a Strategic Action Plan
Turn reflection into action. In collaboration with your director or faculty sponsor, gather three to five dedicated leaders and create next year’s plan. Reflect. imagine. and strategize. Focus on areas for growth. Set clear goals, assign tasks, and outline a timeline. A written plan keeps everyone accountable and ensures summer progress.
Show Gratitude
Gratitude builds community. Urge your booster team to thank those who made the year possible—parents, teachers, project team leaders, and community partners/sponsors. A note, a social media post, or a small token can make a lasting impact. Recognizing others keeps support for the arts strong.
Rest and Recharge
The school year demands a lot from booster leaders. Long nights and constant coordination take a toll. Now is the time to pause. Step back from the busy pace and rest. Spend time with family, enjoy hobbies, or simply relax. Recharging now ensures fresh energy for next year.
Looking Forward
Finishing strong isn’t just about closing out the year—it sets up the next one. Celebrate, reflect, plan, give thanks, and rest. These steps keep booster leaders focused, inspired, and ready to support the fine arts community with renewed purpose.
